Breath Training in the Zone
Because most people train too hard OR too easy.
Let your breathing tell you when to ease up or train harder. Smart breathing exercise with real-time feedback. No sensors needed.
What Course Participants Say
Our programs are built around breath training zones. Here's what participants share.
- "I just wanted to say I am loving the program. It is so much more enjoyable than my old breathing exercise. I am putting 20 rounds in most days!"
- "I'm not having asthma attacks any more. And my lung scores are better since I started the program. How did this happen? Why does it work?"
- "It feels great to do these breathing exercises every day."
- "I've been doing 15 rounds a day for 2 weeks and didn't need to cough since 1 week already."
- "I am really surprised: in two days the duration of my breath-holds before and after sleep is so much longer."
- "The smart monitoring really works well. It helped me learn to sense my breathing response and keep it at a more gentle level."

Why Zones Matter
Breath training zones help you practice at the right intensity — reducing complexity and improving results.
Without Zones: Hard to know if you're at the right intensity. At wrong intensity, progress stalls or backfires. Stress avoidance leads to weaker practice. Hard to control intensity in advanced techniques.
With Zones: Verifies you're at the right intensity. Spots and corrects issues immediately. Train comfortably at optimal intensity. Use intensity as a tool in advanced techniques.
Wrong intensity is the #1 reason you're not getting optimal results, even when you practice consistently. We help you progress optimally — applying the most advanced techniques safely.

How the Zones Work
Breath training zones show your training intensity — like heart rate zones, but for breath training.
Measure the Zone — Each exercise round, your zone is determined by two measurements: Comfortable Breath-Hold (how long you held your breath) and First Full Breath (how softly you breathe afterwards). Better = Greener. Struggling = Redder.
Adapt in Real-Time — The app adjusts your exercise in real-time. Green zones: slightly raise the challenge. Red zones: lower the challenge accordingly. Auto-adjusts by default — customize if you prefer.
Train with Zones — Gentle practice: aim to stay in the green zone, gradually progress from level 1 to 5. Moderate practice: aim to stay in the green zone, gradually progress from level 6 to 9. Powerful practice: start in green, then enter the orange zone 1-2x per session at levels 10 and 11.
We're all different — instructors help you progress optimally and safely. Once you learned the basics, just follow the timer and audio cues in the app — it handles the zone tracking automatically, so you can focus on your breath.
How Zones Adapt in Real-Time
During each exercise, the app sees your current breathing and relaxation scores and continuously adjusts the session — so you always train at the right intensity.
- Detects Your State — The app measures your breathing and relaxation scores during the exercise.
- Real-Time Guidance — The app automatically personalizes the breathing exercise in real-time.
- Stay in the Flow — Naturally train in the optimal zone while staying relaxed and focused.
Six Breathing Techniques
The unique Reuvers breathing sequence combines peak performance with deep relaxation. 15-45 minutes daily.
- Slow Breathing — Slow down your inhales and exhales
- Feather Breathing — Very gentle airflow with relaxation
- Deep Breathing — Optimize your breathing pattern
- Power Breathing — Build respiratory strength and lung capacity
- Breath Holds — Build CO2 tolerance and oxygen efficiency
- Breath Contemplation — Get into the zone, feel the flow
Each session consists of 3 to 13 rounds, each lasting about 3 minutes. Each round is a unique sequence of the six techniques.
Built on Proven Foundations
The Reuvers approach builds on three time-tested traditions.

Know if you're training too hard or too easy — right now. Improves oxygenation and metabolism. Deep activation of the relaxation response. Supports deeper sleep and recovery. Improves CO2 tolerance and mental clarity. Rooted in 25+ years of breathing practice.
About Ed Reuvers
Drs. Ed Reuvers has over 25 years of experience in breathing practices, initially as a Buddhist monk and later as a Buteyko Breathing instructor. He founded the Advanced Buteyko Institute and developed the Reuvers breathing program based on extensive practical experimentation with both traditional and modern approaches.
Through decades of teaching, Ed noticed that one of the biggest struggles students face is staying in the right training zone — not too strong, nor too soft. This balance is essential for maximum health benefits and the best exercise experience.
After years of experimentation, Ed finally found a solution. He created a new breathing exercise flow to monitor your actual performance and automatically help you stay in the right zone. It allows stronger practice when you can handle more and slows you down when you're going too strong. All monitoring is built right into the exercises themselves, without needing any bio sensors. This helps you practice with confidence and stay in your optimal breath training zone consistently.
Ed graduated with distinction in Economics, gaining the Dutch academic title of 'doctorandus' (drs). He speaks English, Dutch and Thai fluently, with basic German and Spanish. Learn more about Ed and the program.
